Creative City Grantee Events: December 2017

As the year 2017 nears its end, we are excited to share these Creative City-supported projects by members of the program’s fourth cohort. Check out the final exhibition of Salvador Jiménez-Flores’ Tortilla Social and a winter concert by Patchtax and the MANNA singers.

Tortilla Social | Salvador Jiménez-Flores

Tortilla Social is a participatory project that will transform public spaces through the use of printmaking as a tool for self-expression, advocacy, and art education, and food as a uniter of community. Led by artist Salvador Jiménez-Flores and partnering with arts organization Urbano Project, Tortilla Social will include a series of pop-up, interactive printmaking and food workshops throughout Boston. The mobile project will feature a multi-functional tortilla press built by the artist and will engage participants of all ages in a variety of printmaking techniques and gastronomical explorations.

Patchtax and the MANNA Singers

Patchtax & the MANNA Singers | Patchtax (Eve Boltax and Mary Joy Patchett)

Patchtax and the MANNA Singers are collaborating to create an extraordinarily joyful choir of homeless and recently housed people in downtown Boston. Mary Joy Patchett and Eve Boltax of Patchtax are directing the music program within the established MANNA community (Many Angels Needed Now and Always). The choir’s weekly Tuesday afternoon rehearsals are open to anyone who wants to uplift their spirit and heal their heart through singing.
