Landscape with Figures follows the journey of a divine spirit as it wanders on earth in order toexperience the tedium of life and human suffering. Inspired byPeter Brueghel’s genre paintings, the work is written, designed, and directed by Andrew Ondrejcak in collaboration with Tanya Selvaratnam and the Ethical Fashion Initiative, a subsidiary of the United Nations that pairs women artisans with jobs in the fashion and textile industries. As part of this collaboration, Ondrejcak traveled to Haiti, Burkina Faso, Togo and Mali to work directly with artisans on costume and prop elements. Touring productions of Landscape with Figures combine four NYC-based performers with local performers from host cities.
