Commissioned by New York Live Arts, Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion creates a new evening-length historical homage celebrating two important milestones—the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 20th anniversary of the abolishment of Apartheid in South Africa. These events are jumping-off points for collaborations between Abraham, visual artist Glenn Ligon, and world-renowned musicians, with added inspiration coming from We Insist: Max Roach’s Freedom Now Suite, a protest album that shed light on the civil rights movement.
