BarnArts will present Etienne Charles’ Gullah Roots project to perform at the Feast & Field Music Series the evening of July 9, 2026. Etienne is a Trinidadan educator and jazz musician focused on connecting the African diaspora and drawing lines to regions at the roots of migrations; his Gullah Roots project is his most recent expression. Alongside his performance at our music series, they will hold two panels: the first is a virtual discussion a week before the tour in collaboration with Firstworks, and the Blues to Green/Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival. The second panel will be on-site before the event and will explore Black Americans in the Revolution and the influence of Gullah Geechee culture on the development of jazz.
