Mechanics' Hall

Mechanics' Hall will present Marimba Ballet, a multidisciplinary performance by musician Steph Davis and choreographer Jenny Oliver that blends original marimba compositions rooted in African diasporic traditions with contemporary dance. Moving from melancholy reflection to a place of acceptance, unity, and joy, the work invites audiences to reflect on identity, self-expression, and community care. The engagement will also include Accessing Memory through Movement and Music, a public workshop led by Davis and Oliver. Rooted in the idea that in many African languages the words for music and dance are the same, the workshop will guide participants through movement and music, with no previous experience necessary.
