Mayo Street Arts will present Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets for a weeklong residency as part of the 2026 Puppets in Portland festival. The residency will include four performances of Animalia, which explores the world of animals through movement, music, and visually striking puppetry. Breaking out of the traditional puppet theater booth, Ford transforms the entire theater into a performance stage using hand-carved foam puppets, or “Foamies,” to explore the natural world. The engagement will also include a three-hour foam-carving workshop for puppeteers and the “puppet curious.”
