The University of Massachusetts Amherst will present folk and contemporary singer Maria Mazzotta as part of its Codemakers series of socially engaged and activist artists. A leading practitioner of Southern Italian pizzica (taranta) folk music, Mazzotta brings together Mediterranean and Eastern European folk traditions with modern arrangements and explores social issues through her work. In addition to the concert, this engagement will include an artist conversation and Q&A or a lecture-demonstration exploring the traditional arts and social issues that have shaped Mazzotta’s career.
