Biography

A native of New Haven, CT, Dawn Gibson-Brehon (She/Her/Hers) is a graduate of the Hartt School and UW/Madison Center for Arts Administration. Mrs. Gibson-Brehon currently serves as Senior Producer at the Apollo Theater, where she oversees operations and financial management for 80 – 100 events annually. Prior to her role as Senior Producer, Mrs. Gibson-Brehon managed a number of Apollo Theater special projects and performances including: Ellington at Christmas, Apollo Club Harlem, James Brown: Get on the Good Foot, a Celebration in Dance and Between the World and Me, a theatrical event based on the award-winning book by profound writer Ta-Nehisi Coates. Between the World and Me inspired the HBO film adaptation of the same name which premiered in November 2021.

Mrs. Gibson-Brehon recently retired from SUNY Purchase College, having served as an Assistant Professor in the Practice of Arts Management in the Arts Management program, teaching classes in arts management, fundraising, artist management, and business planning. She served as Executive Director of Evidence, A Dance Company; founding director of CSU Monterey Bay’s World Theater performing arts series; Theatre Manager at Palm Beach Community College’s Duncan Theatre; company management for the Lincoln Center Summer Festival; and programming and artist services manager at George Mason University.

Mrs. Gibson-Brehon is a former board member with Youth Rights and the New Haven Urban Design League in New Haven, CT, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters and Chamber Music America. She currently serves on the Board of the New England Foundation for the Arts.
