As a social impact organization, NEFA builds, sustains, and fights for arts and culture through grantmaking, partnerships, and advocacy in New England, the nation, and beyond. NEFA serves as a regional partner for the National Endowment for the Arts, New England’s state arts agencies, and private foundations.

In fiscal year 2025 (June 2024 through May 2025), NEFA’s programs supported artists and communities through:

  • Grants to artists and cultural organizations to create and tour work.
  • CreativeGround:  the country’s only regional directory of cultural organizations, artists, and creative businesses, which provides visibility and connection for the creative sector.
  • Creative Economy Data Portal: Self-determined field data that we code and maintain for our partners. This vital case-making data strengthens and informs local, statewide, and regional efforts to build New England's creative economy.
  • Idea Swap: the annual event for New England-based nonprofit cultural organizations and touring artists to network and share ideas for touring projects.
