Phantom Notes is a mixture of movement and poetry guided by improvisation and rhythm. Drawing from their various practices of tap dance, poetry, rap, percussion, and theater, Vatic Kuumba and Orlando Hernández will create a series of live, live-streamed performances/portals at specific sites in Rhode Island that mark the history of the African slave trade that permeated every aspect of social and economic life in the state. How is improvisation listening both outwardly and inwardly. How can we connect with the phantom of discovery to the unliving and the environmental, those who have died, past and present.
