Former Program Director, Dance

We are excited to announce eight new Production Residencies for Dance (PRD) grants through the National Dance Project (NDP). Eight artists and companies who were awarded Production Grants in 2015 will receive this additional grant of $18,750 each towards end-stage residencies with a U.S.-based residency partner.

PRD grants provide final-stage residency support designed to strengthen the quality and impact of dance works on tour. Now in its sixth year, PRD grants continue to play a pivotal role as artists get ready for the premiere and tour of their work. Thanks to funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, 45 projects have received PRD grants since the beginning of the program in 2010.

In this round, PRD grants were awarded to artists with an established touring track record who were taking on complex new challenges beyond their usual practice and to artists new to national touring to strengthen their capacity.

"I could not have asked for a more fulfilling residency" said Christopher K. Morgan, Artistic Director of Christopher K. Morgan & Artists, who received a 2015 PRD grant for a residency at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, HI, to further develop his NDP Project, Pōhaku, which is currently on tour. "Much of this positive experience has to do with how important the gift of time is to the creative process. Being able to afford to have the entire team together in a focused work environment for two weeks… was invaluable. This was by far the deepest and truest form of collaboration I have experienced in my choreographic career to date…This residency has changed me in ways that will continue to affect me, my creative process and work, long after it has ended."
