The Wexner Center for the Arts (the Wex) will host Ryan K. Johnson and his company SOLE Defined in a multi-day technical residency from August 22, 2025 – September 7, 2025, to create, develop and support at least 5 public facing performances and several workshops at the Wex, including the design of a lighting plot, audio plot, projection designs, staging and set design, as well as the development of best practices for touring and a tour rider. “ZAZ: The Big Easy,” a recipient of the 2023 NEFA NDP Award, is a choreography-led immersive performance that showcases African Diasporic Percussive Dance, accompanied by immersive sound and media technologies. The performance explores the theme of global warming through the lens of Hurricane Katrina. It features tap dance, body percussion, West African and contemporary partnering, original music, technology inspired by actual events and the oral histories of survivors.
