The Virginia Arts Festival has partnered with the newly re-launched Dance Theatre of Harlem Company for 2014. This residency, "Dancing Through Barriers 2014", celebrates the essential role of African-American dance as both a preserver of tradition and a force behind creative cultural change. Residency components include public performances, a student matinee, master classes and mentoring with local student dancers and a panel discussion prior to public performances. Repertoire includes John Alleyne's "Far But Close".
