Jawole Zollar and Urban Bush Women devise Hair and other Stories, a multidisciplinary, evening- length work that addresses matters of race, gender identity, and economic inequality through the lens of hair, primarily that of African American women. While bringing back two favorite characters from the 2001 narrative, this work is completely new, with a new director, comedic writer, and projections designer. Along with the performances, UBW will engage communities via “Hair Parties,” gatherings that facilitate dialogue around the complex and often difficult issues explored in the work. Estimated artist fee: $25,000/performance, $35,000/week.
