Upper Valley Music Center (UVMC) will present a residency with Sol y Canto, including performance, workshops, and rehearsals with local singers. Sol y Canto is a Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist, singer and composer Brian Amador, along with instrumentalists on bass, winds, and strings. During their first visit, Sol y Canto will lead workshops for high school singers and community ensembles, focused on vocal improvisations in Latin rhythms. The Amadors will introduce original choral arrangements in rehearsals of two UVMC ensembles, the children’s chorus and the Community Chorus. Before the band’s public performance, they will lead a public workshop in which singers will learn and rehearse a song and then sing along with the band in the concert. Sol y Canto will return to the Upper Valley for a follow-up visit in November, when the two UVMC choruses will perform the music introduced in the first visit.
