BOYS IN TROUBLE
Fiscal Year Awarded
2017
Grant or Program
National Dance Project Production Grant
Grant Amount
$44,000

BOYS IN TROUBLE plunges audiences heart-first into the crossroads of contemporary American masculinities and ‘trouble’ … giving voice to outsider experiences of masculinity: trans, queer, Black, gay. A multi-generational, multi-racial ensemble of 5 dancer-performers moves seamlessly between full-throttle dance, luscious partnering and live storytelling. BOYS IN TROUBLE offers an intensely timely, exquisite artistic response to current issues of gender, masculinity and race. Dorsey created BOYS IN TROUBLE during a series of community residencies that engaged transpeople, gay/queer men and masculine-of-center people in the project’s six commissioner cities. Dorsey is the US’ first acclaimed transgender contemporary dance choreographer. The work travels with a wide range of powerful community engagement activities. Estimated artist fee: $12,000/performance, $15,000-$17,000/week
