Russell Sage College Women's Institute hosted four Sandglass ensemble members for an artists-in-residency as part of Refugee Awareness Week. This included three full days of engagement, with two artist activates per day: classroom workshops, screenings and talkbacks, refugee journey facilitated experience. Babylon is a response to the refugee crisis and its impact on communities in the United States. Through puppets and moving panoramic scrolls, five actor/singer/puppeteers tell refugees’ stories in original four-part choral songs. This impactful and dynamic artist residency was part of a larger community-wide week of events to bring awareness to the global refugee crisis, and the ways we can all help welcome and support our new neighbors in the Albany, NY area.
