Scaffold Room is a "lecture-performance-musical" that refracts ideas of the modern vs. archetypal black female performer in American culture. The performance occurs in a confined, constructed environment where performers "act out" against assumptions about prescribed body-politics, drawing on iconic characters from history, popular culture, and fiction--ranging from Moms Mabley to Amy Winehouse to Kathy Acker. The project is Lemon's latest experiment with the boundaries of form and presentation, merging performance with visual installation.
