For its 50th Anniversary Season, PHILADANCO! is commissioning new work from emerging artists with unique voices and approaches to dance. BaKari Lindsay, a Black Canadian choreographer, will create a 24-minute work on six-eight dancers set to Malian kora music. Lindsay will draw upon his Caribbean and African heritage, emphasizing physical storytelling and the individual qualities that each dancer brings to the project. Through his collaborative creative process, the dancers will stretch themselves in new ways, exploring their own personal histories and embodying them through dance. The work will premiere at the Kimmel Center in April 2020 and become part of PHILADANCO!'s 50th Anniversary Tour.
