Nell Mancini

<p><span style="font-size: 14px;">Nell Mancini, Associate Artistic Director of Novum Dance Collective, seeks support to develop Sappho, a new contemporary dance work for four dancers. This work explores the history and poetic writings of the famed lesbian poet Sappho and her reach and influence on art and queer culture to the present day. In a time when queer rights are back under attack by the current administration, one that is also intent on rewriting history to fit their personal narrative, historic research and prevention is more important than ever. Presenting stories of queer joy and highlighting pillars of our history through art is a pertinent way for the dance community to contribute to this important work. A work in progress premiered at Boston’s NACHMO showing in 2024, and the work will be brought to its full fruition throughout next year. We are seeking funding to support music licensing, video documentation, and to pay the dancers involved in the process.</span></p>
