Project Title
On Triumph and Trauma
Fiscal Year Awarded
2016

A provocative new multidisciplinary dance theater work, On Triumph and Trauma emerges in the wake of the centennial anniversary of Irelands 1916 Rising. With one hundred years behind us, we are caught with the heroes and demons of our past and the fraught uncertainty of our future. On Triumph and Trauma aims to study the nation’s ever-changing relationship with its own history, political appropriation of historical events, and the contrast of commemoration and remembrance. Both fragile and blunt, this new work incorporates visceral movement, stirring visuals, and a haunting soundscape to ask the very present question of how a nation today can reckon with and reflect against the ideals and myths of its origin. Estimated artist fee: $8,000/performance, $10,000/week.
