“Memory Fleet: A Return to Matr” is an expanding, episodic, performance that builds an alternative archive for the preservation of shared memories and stories. The project began in collaboration with Hearn’s grandmother, Claudette Nickens Johnson, as a way to build an alternative archive for her stories since she was beginning to lose her ability to remember. It is created for the people and places that have mothered Jasmine and is made for all Black people who mother.
Hearns’ engagement with KST will run from April 13 - 26, 2026 and includes a Welcome Dinner and Artist Talk on April 20, a movement workshop with KST mutual-aid residency partner PearlArts on April 22, and two presentations of Hearn’s “Memory Fleet” April 24-25 at Kelly Strayhorn Theater, with Saturday’s show featuring by a post-performance discussion with the artist.
