A fungal play that takes a closer look at the mess of cleaning up after the worst has happened. We are building an uplifting story based on the people who perform the same labor as fungi, whose work and lives are also overlooked and marginalized. We’re interested in how hard it is to clean and heal from something that feels unbearable –like the death of a loved one–. Our sources include stories of fungal healers, curanderas, sabias, janitorial staff, and domestic workers. Our theatrical approaches include Lecoq story building practices, movement, puppetry, bilingualism, humor, precise design language, and a desire to develop theatrical processes that align with the needs of our communities. Frutos continues our ensemble’s long standing devising process and community relationships that honor the experiences and bodies of those in the rehearsal room, while creating layered stories that refract the stories of latine/multilingual audiences to enact a more just present and future.
