Forbes House Museum

<p>Forbes House Museum, Milton, MA, will present musician and cartoonist Marek Bennett as part of its Heritage Music Series and “Reading Frederick Douglass Together” commemoration. In his concert, <em>Folk Music of the American Civil War</em>, Bennett will draw from 19th-century folk traditions, including parlor songs, spirituals, rally cries, and Appalachian music, inviting audience participation through singing, basic instrument sampling, and readings from primary sources.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to the concert, Bennett will lead a hands-on workshop, “Creating Comics from Local History!,” guiding participants in developing mini-comics and graphic narratives inspired by historical themes. Through partnerships with local schools and community organizations, the engagement will connect music, visual storytelling, and civic dialogue while providing accessible, intergenerational participation opportunities.</p>
