From choreographer Erin McNulty, “The Morrígan” is a dance for three rooted in the Irish mythology of the mysterious titular goddess. This work-in-development explores themes of sacred ecology and the divine feminine and is being researched amidst the natural beauty of New Hampshire’s Upper Valley. Featuring McNulty and dancers Kassady Small and Emily Higgins, the piece underwent an eight-week development period in Fall 2022 to lay foundations and explore the mythology academically and physically. The group reconvenes in Spring 2023 to continue the choreographic process in anticipation of a premiere at the 2023 Junction Dance Festival in Vermont. With funding support to develop and document this first iteration, the work will expand in the future to an evening-length site specific piece, giving more community members the chance to learn about Irish mythology and, through the lens it provides, ponder the neglected spiritual relationship between human body and ecological landscape.
