Project Title
in the shelter of the fold
Fiscal Year Awarded
2017

in the shelter of the fold, Doug Varone’s latest project, is an intensely intimate work that explores the many forms of faith and belief, as well as the acts of coping, realization, choice, and the expectations attached to it. Built from episodic, stand-alone vignettes for 1-14 dancers, this 40-minute work includes a community component option to include local dancers in public performances at each tour location. Within the piece, Varone wants audiences to experience the physicality of disappointment, the solitude of reckoning and realization, and the questioning inherent in faith. Estimated artist fee: $25,000/performance; $45,000/week.
