PARABLE OF PORTALS (POP) dreams Octavia E. Butler’s insights into audio-visual-movement experiences that shape a collection of modular interactive performances that occur between real and virtual environments. We travel between community-engaged places like my beloved Leimert Park Village, powered by the people, and virtual blockchain worlds like Cryptovoxels. POP is a doorway to and through time(s) and space(s) with physical and avatar bodies. In the spirit of Octavia Butler’s radical ingenuity, “AfroFuturism” is expressed as a means to create at the supple centers of current futures, present pasts, and the in-betweens of life and our liveliHOODs.

All land is sacred.
I live and be
on Tongva land
who are and have been
the caretakers of this area.
For that I am grateful.

Estimated Artist Fee: $20,000/performance or $35-45,000/week long residency

In a gallery, a dancer (with a mask that inflates like a balloon in the back) sits on the ground in front of another dancer who stands (and wears a long tassled mask).

In a gallery, with projections of different colors, two dancers swap. One has a long mask on that looks like fringe.
