Jamaica, NY
Camille A. Brown’s new dance theatre work QUEENS will be a satirical fairytale about the five boroughs of NYC. This Jamaica, Queens, native takes audience members on a fun, wild, and daring ride through the stomping grounds of Hollis, Queens; BedStuy, Brooklyn; Harlem, and the South Bronx—all before gentrification. Infused with personal stories and cultural touchstones from all the boroughs, this work highlights USA’s complicated history and celebrates the vast cultural contributions its residents have given to American life. From the false discovery of “the new world” to the irony of how “Queens” got its name, this work asks the question: Will the real Queens and Kings of NYC please stand up?
Estimated Artist Fee: $32,500/performance; $40,000/week
