Blues to Green will present Cimafunk at the free Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts. Blending Afro-Cuban rhythms, funk, soul, and rock, Cimafunk and his band will present a main-stage performance celebrating Black and Afro-Caribbean musical lineages. The engagement will also include a Jazz & Justice–style public conversation or mini-workshop exploring the history and cultural significance of Afro-Cuban music, Cimafunk’s “cimarrón” inspiration, and the ways his work bridges Cuban and U.S. Black musical traditions.
