Business Basics for the Public Artist: Insurance, Incorporation & Copyright
Whether you are a first-timer or a seasoned professional, the business side of public art can be daunting. This workshop will give artists the knowledge and tools they need to protect their artistic endeavors, including:
- Insurance basics for public artists
- A clear explanation of copyright and trademark laws—know your rights and understand the rights of others
- The how, what, when, where and why of incorporating as a business: Should I form an LLC? What is a DBA? How should I be organized? These questions answered and more.
These topics will be presented by Chris Hawthorne of TGA Cross Insurance, Jim Grace of the Arts & Business Council and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and Joel Sowalsky of Daily General Counsel. You will leave feeling empowered to produce and protect your work. Come with your experience and your questions.
Public art activities at NEFA are supported by the Fund for the Arts.
