NEFA’s National Dance Project Retrospective and Field Scan
How do choreographers today create their work and economically sustain themselves? How and why do they tour their work? What impact has the New England Foundation for the Arts’ (NEFA) National Dance Project made on the development of the dance field over its nearly 20 year history? How should it evolve to best meet the changing and future needs of the dance sector?

Please join lead researcher, Metris Arts Consulting, and NEFA staff for a share out of preliminary findings from this research effort. The session will include interactive opportunities for the field to “ground-truth” the preliminary findings and shape the final research.

This session will take prior to Dance/USA's 2016 Dance Forum (see below); be sure to stick around for Connections: Dance Touring and Performance Opportunities in the same room!

Sharing the Leadership: Making Decisions While Walking the Talk
Moderated by NEFA executive director Cathy Edwards
The demands on presenters to excel at curation, civic engagement, artistic development, and curriculum development stretch the single leader model beyond its limits. ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage has adopted a three-person co-equal leadership model. The complex and ambitious mission and vision, and the commitment to a values-based decision model, have led us here. How do co-equal leaders share the roles? What are the pitfalls? What are the advantages? What are the ramifications?

Monday, January 18, 2016: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Hilton, Concourse D
Artists & the Military: Collaboration, Methodology, Impact
NEFA’s Quita Sullivan will host this panel
Artists have made powerful, important new works reflecting on the military experience and the current state of America at war, directly engaging voices from military communities in their creation process and as they tour the U.S. How is art building bridges between military and civilian communities? How are artists building collaborations while providing authentic voice to the military community? This panel will bring together artists to discuss lessons learned, perils and possibilities. This event requires APAP registration to attend.
