Perfume of the Pearl is a new evening-length dance work by April Sellers Dance Collective (ASDC) for five performers, blending folklore, political commentary, and queer performance traditions to create an immersive world where grief transforms into beauty, dissent becomes an act of care, and joy emerges as a powerful form of survival. Inspired by the resilience of nature, the dissent of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and the subversive activism of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the work asks how communities come back together after disturbance. Following four developmental residencies, Perfume of the Pearl premieres in Minneapolis in January 2027.
Caretakers of Land/Land Acknowledgement: Minneapolis is located on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary homelands of the Dakota people.
