<p>The Maine Charitable Mechanic Association (Mechanics’ Hall), Portland, ME, will partner with The Dance Complex of Cambridge, MA, to present Laila J. Franklin’s contemporary dance work <em>BABYBABYBABY</em>. This new work explores romance, desire, vulnerability, and care through shifting physical states, text, and song, drawing inspiration from early-2000s romantic comedies, competitive dance duets, and archival performances by Nina Simone.</p><p>Performances at Mechanics’ Hall will take place April 11–12, 2026, and will include a post-performance reception featuring a Q&amp;A, panel discussion, and interactive “speed-friending” activity designed to foster connection between artists and audiences. Through affordable ticketing, complimentary student access, ASL interpretation, and community partnerships, the engagement will expand access to contemporary dance while strengthening regional collaboration and community dialogue.</p>
