Agos y Viento is a community-engaged physical theater project that focuses on immigration stories, particularly those of Filipino and Mexican experiences. With an intergenerational cast, AniMalayaWorks collaborates with artists from the Arts and Culture Laboratory to create a performance that weaves together narratives from Mexico and the Philippines, from pre-colonial times to post-US migration. This research-to-performance work examines the notion of home, especially in uncertain times when our belonging may feel threatened. It addresses post-colonial ideologies impacting our communities and combines theatrical elements, honoring the maximalism from Philippine and Mexican theater traditions. We emphasize Indigenous theater-making practice through poetry, dance, folk songs, crafts, and communal meals-- elements often overlooked in Western theater. Our notion of "home" is expressed through Agos (Tagalog word for Tides) and Viento (Spanish word for Wind).
