Solo Magic will develop and tour Keeper of Sadness (KOS), an immersive performance installation and living archive centering the histories, grief, and resilience of Black womxn. KOS unfolds across three movements: The Unraveling, The Grief, and The Joy, inviting audiences to move through individual, collective, and ancestral grief and the liberation that can arise through reclamation.
At each host site, Solo Magic will work with local partners to gather consent-based interviews with Black womxn and integrate their stories into KOS through projection and performance. Every new interview expands the archive and updates the Ancestral Avatar, a composite projected presence built from community testimony, reshaping the work in each city and deepening it with each community encounter.
KOS also includes healing-centered workshops and post-performance dialogues with artists, community members, and mental health professionals as integral elements of the work's community engagement model. Designed to adapt to museums, galleries, warehouses, and non-traditional performance spaces.
