Steph Davis, marimbist, composer, Africana studies scholar, and cultural activist will perform “like flower petals...” at Mayo Street Arts on Friday, May 17. The 60-minute marimba performance delves into identity, reclamation, and traditional arts.
The following morning, Saturday, May 18, Steph Davis will draw on their art education experience to facilitate a free listening and communal quiltmaking session for 15-25 participants. We will particularly focus on promoting this event to youth who live in our neighborhood, which includes a large public housing community.
The quilt will then be displayed as part of MSA’s May/June gallery exhibit in collaboration with Portland Housing Authority, which will feature work created by residents of public housing communities throughout Portland.
