Workshop Presenter Process

about presenting a workshop at the 2013 ccx

  • Workshops are peer exchange opportunities to discuss the practical implementation of community creative economy initiatives.
  • Community creative economy initiatives explicitly impact various elements of the creative economy through downtown revitalization, artist and small business professional development, impact data collection, planning, zoning, space development, and marketing.
  • Workshops are strictly timed and have a specific format: 25 minutes of how-to PowerPoint presentation, 25 minutes of Q&A discussion, and 25 minutes of networking time. 
  • Workshops must focus on the step-by-step process of a single creative economy initiative - not the work of an entire organization - and provide participants with a To Do checklist outlining the steps they would take to replicate the initiative in their own community.
  • Multiple peers may present in one workshop, but they must collectively present one initiative in the allotted time.
  • Since the CCX is primarily a peer exchange, workshop presenters are also participants in the event and are expected to attend the entire day and half of workshops by their peers.
  • Workshop presenters receive discounted registration to the event.
  • Selected workshops will be eligible to receive a NEFA Creative Economy Award.

to become a CCX workshop presenter

  1. Submit your creative economy initiative. (Deadline: January 10, 2013)
    1. Visit www.nefa.org and navigate to “Community Initiatives” under "Creative Economy." 
    2. Click the “Submit your community Initiative” button and complete the form, including the last "Additional Information" section which indicates that you have read these guidelines and wish to be considered as a CCX workshop presenter.
    3. Click Save to submit it to NEFA staff. 
    4. Once NEFA staff approves your submission, it is posted for public view on nefa.org.
  2. Await panel review of submissions & notification. (Mid-February)
    1. Your submission is reviewed by a panel of New England creative economy peers.
    2. NEFA will notify you (by mid-February) if you are chosen to present a workshop at the 2013 CCX.
    3. Confirm that you agree to present your workshop and plan to attend the entire event.

If chosen to present:

  1. Create your workshop PowerPoint and To Do handout.
    1. PowerPoint: A 25-minute presentation summarizing the specific elements of the community initiative that you submitted.
    2. To Do handout: A detailed list of actions to execute this work. (List of who, what, when, where, and how as take-away for participants)
  2. Pre-screen your PowerPoint online to CCX hosts for review. (Mid-March)
    1. In an effort to have the most effective and informative workshops possible, the CCX hosts will assign a 30-minute time slot on GoToMeeting where they will give feedback to workshop presenters on their PowerPoint and To Do handout.
  3. Refine your presentation and register for the 2013 Creative Communities Exchange!
