NEFA announced new funding opportunities as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Signed on February 17, 2009, the ARRA recognized the important role the arts will play in the economic recovery of the nation, and through stimulus funding awarded to the National Endowment for the Arts, provided NEFA approximately $330,000 to distribute in support of preserving arts jobs.
NEFA made ARRA funds available in special, one-time grants to nonprofit arts organizations to help maintain or restore arts jobs critical to their missions. Arts organizations who qualified were also able to apply directly to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), their state arts agency, or their local arts agency for funding; however applicants were only eligible to receive one grant. If recommended for funding by more than one of these organizations, the applicant had to choose which one to accept.
NEFA distributed the ARRA funding through three Arts Jobs opportunities: Presenter Salary Support, Performing Artist Fee Support, and Public Artist Fee Support.
While organizations can accept ARRA funds from just one source, we encourage you to learn more about the ARRA programs of the NEA, the six New England state arts agencies, and local cultural councils.
