Genre-crossing harpist Charles Overton’s Portland residency will include a classical chamber music program, a jazz concert at multidisciplinary art hub SPACE Gallery, and a public artist talk at the Portland Conservatory of Music, a nonprofit community music school. Charles’ week in Portland will include multiple opportunities for meaningful connection with the local community through a home stay, open soundcheck for students, post-event Q&As and mingling with the audience, and a moderated interview with musical demonstrations.

Charles’ goal as an artist is to transcend musical categorization to create an environment that is accessible, exciting and can resonate deeply with any audience. He began his harp studies at the age of ten, went on to be the first harpist accepted to Berklee’s prestigious Global Jazz Institute, and currently teaches at the Boston Conservatory while actively touring and performing around the world.
