FirstWorks will work with new media artists MASARY studios to develop Cycles, a site-specific new media work which illuminates and animates the iconic façade of Grace Church. The sound/light/video installation will draw people to Providence, RI for three nights that center place, underscore the range of individual perspectives in our community, and light up the City during the darkest nights of winter. Live Performances will be held to invite viewers into the Church for moments of reflection. NEST support will allow for preceding artist talk, student involvement, and engagements with community during site visits for this ambitious undertaking. Selected for the 2021 Lumen Prize long-list, MASARY Studios has created works for the Scottsdale Canal Convergence, Mount Auburn cemetery, and Cincinnati’s Roebling Bridge. The artist collective uses projection mapping and other new technologies to forge new community narratives. This “first work” will celebrate Providence on a monumental scale.
