Department of Public Imagination is a public art project that creates space for community in Boston to participate in imagination work and connect with others around shared dreams for the future. A telephone booth and phones installed in the community will invite folks to listen and leave their own message describing dreams they have for themselves, a loved one, or their community. As its own imagination exercise, Department of Public Imagination will install a fictional, functioning city department in public space. This installation and performance piece will welcome the public to engage and connect through imagination work to explore the questions: What if all community members had access to imagination work? What if you could propose your dreams directly to a municipal office to be realized? How would this fundamental shift enable us to more productively envision and demand alternative futures?
