NEFA’s National Dance Project receives $3.3 million

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation renews support as major funder

(Boston, MA) The New England Foundation for the Arts has received a three-year grant of $3,300,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to continue the work of the National Dance Project.

NEFA launched the National Dance Project in 1996 to encourage the creation of new dance work to share with audiences in communities throughout the U.S.  Since then, the program has distributed more than $27 million in grants and remains one of the most significant sources for dance funding in the U.S. NDP has reached over 3.6 million audience members and funds tours to an average of 37 states annually.

“The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation plays a leadership role in sustaining and creating a robust landscape for dance in the U.S. We are deeply grateful for their investment of nearly $9.5 million in the National Dance Project, and for their continued support of this program and the opportunities it provides to both artists and communities across the country,” said NEFA executive director Cathy Edwards.

NEFA's National Dance Project is supported with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with additional support from the MetLife Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, and funding for special initiatives from the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French American Cultural Exchange.   Visit www.nefa.org or call 617.951.0010 x521 for more information.
