C R U I S E D is a work-in-progress dance film/fiber art/performance installation exploring the history and uses of cruising in gay communities. Cruising is the act of seeking casual sex in public places from strangers. It is primarily non-verbal and exists in spite of (and alongside) the intended function of the location it is happening (a park, a bathroom, a train station, etc.) It has historically been an act of queer defiance, embodied joy, and social survival. Starting with investigating the body language of cruising, the way it has been documented and passed down through time, along with analyzing the qualities of an ideal cruising location, I will create a versatile, hand knitted environment to both engulf the audience and function as projection surface for a multi-sensory dance performance/film/sound installation exploring the act of cruising and why, in spite of decades of social progression, it is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity in the year 2023.
