Language in the Landscape is the White Mountains' edition of Krolak’s 2018 Newton Cemetery walking tour. Karen's work connects elements in the White Mountains to entries in her Dictionary of Negative Space, an interdisciplinary lament for the words that the English language lacks for grief, trauma, and repair. Language in the Landscape maps spaces of unnamed grief by acknowledging the nuanced layers, histories, and emotional realities that coexist within the Mountains. The project raises questions about navigation, respect, and care. The project invites a movement ritual called Care Entreaty to root people into a state of care, awareness, respect and empathy as they experience the Mountains.
