ALAXSXA | ALASKA is an interdisciplinary theater performance created by Ping Chong + Company that weaves puppetry, video installation, a soundscape of recorded interviews, and yuraq (Yup'ik drum and dance) in a collage of striking encounters between newcomers to Alaska and those to whom the Great Land originally belonged. Onstage, Alaskan artist-in-residence with Ping Chong + Company, Ryan Conarro, and Alaskan Gary Upay'aq Beaver embody and excavate the perspectives of "outsider" and "insider" through a series of astonishing, little-known historical narratives in which colonizers collide with Alaskan cultures and climates.
