Dancemaker Survey - how should NDP evolve?

As the National Dance Project (NDP) approaches our 20th anniversary in the 2016-17 season, we are using this opportune moment to reflect on NDP’s impact over the years and to consider how NDP can best support artistic and presentation practices in the years to come. We are working with Metris Arts Consulting and RMC Research to evaluate the comprehensive impact of NDP on the dance landscape in the United States.

Announcing the 2017 NTP Finalists

Since 2010, The National Theater Project (NTP) has supported 43 projects through convenings, networking, and grants. By far, the most significant grant offered by NTP is the Creation and Touring Grant. Each year, NTP awards six Creation and Touring grants, ranging from $80,000 to $130,000, providing funds for the development and national touring of new work. Creation and Touring grants also include an additional $10,000 to support the administration necessary to tour the project. It is a highly competitive grant process and involves a preliminary application and a final application.Read more »


Announcing National Dance Project Production Grant Finalists

As the National Dance Project enters our 21st year, we are putting the learnings from the Moving Dance Forward report into action. Beginning this year, we will invest in more NDP Production Grants annually to provide essential funding for creation and touring to 20 artists and companies. Cited as NDP’s “most important contribution to the field,” Production Grants deliver a combination of funds including up to $45,000 to create a new work, $10,000 in unrestricted general operating support, and up to $35,000 in tour subsidies that go to U.S. organizations that bring the new work to their communities.Read more »


NEFA's National Theater Project Welcomes New Advisors

This has been a big month for the National Theater Project! The Preliminary Application has closed and review is beginning. This an in-depth process that requires reading 80+ applications, a commitment to funding diverse artists from all parts of the country, work sample review, and hard conversations about the applicant pool, theater across its many intersecting forms, equity, aesthetics, and resources.

Arts, Military, and Healthcare Communities Convene

Art in the Service of Understanding: Bridging Artists, Military, Veterans, and Civilian Communities held March 10–12, 2017, in partnership with HowlRound, was inspired by the artists and their collaborators in the military, healthcare, and presenter communities who created five new performance works funded by NEFA's National Theater Project (NTP) and National Dance Project (NDP) in recent years. Federal Arts Funding Update

Dear NEFA friends,

Many NEFA constituents have reached out to us with questions and concerns related to recent news reports about the possible elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the privatization of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. We at NEFA are concerned, too, about federal arts funding in the new administration.

NEFA's National Dance Project Announces New Advisors

Each year, NEFA’s National Dance Project (NDP) enlists the services of individuals working in the dance field to serve as Advisors and make grant recommendations during annual review meetings. NDP Advisors are leaders in the dance field, including dance presenters and dance artists. In addition to serving as the grant review panel, Advisors work with Production Grant finalists as they prepare their proposals, serve as a policy council, and are ambassadors for the program in their communities....Read more »
