Overview
Touring Grants fall into two categories:

  • Touring Grants for projects that have received a NDP Production Grant, listed in the NDP Grant Guidelines booklet as NDP touring projects.
  • Touring Grants for Tour Only supported projects that have not received a NDP Production Grant, but have been nominated for NDP Tour Only support.

NDP Touring Grants
Receipt Deadline for Letters of Intent and Tour Grids: February 8, 2008
Receipt Deadline for Presenter Applications: April 1, 2008

NDP Touring Grants support the distribution and presentation (touring) of NDP-funded projects. Performing arts presenters may receive fee subsidy grants for the presentation of any of the season's NDP-supported touring projects, which are listed on pages 10-16 of the NDP Grant Guidleines booklet, PDF document, 332K NDP Grant Guidelines [768k] and in the 2003-2004 NDP Grant Guidelines, Adobe PDF document NDP Tour Only Grant Recipients list.

NDP Touring Grants are paid directly to performing arts presenters to cover a percentage (up to 30%) of the artistic fee (40% available to presenters new to the NDP program). Performing arts presenters interested in presenting projects from this list in the 2008-2009 season (June 1, 2008 - August 31, 2009) are eligible to apply for NDP Touring Grants.

To date, NDP Touring Grants have funded the tours of over 200 projects. These tours have reached nearly 2 million audience members through more than 3,000 performances and 6,000 workshops and community activities.

Eligibility

  • U.S. Performing arts presenters with nonprofit status are eligible to apply for NDP Touring Grants
  • NDP Touring Grants are awarded for the presentation of NDP-funded projects.
  • Engagements must include at least one public performance, and tours must include at least three presenters from at least two states.
  • There is no limit to the number of NDP Touring Grants a presenter may receive.

To learn more about the NDP Touring Grant process, please refer to pages 8-9 of the NDP Grant Guidleines booklet, PDF document, 332K NDP Grant Guidelines [768k].

How to Apply
Details on submitting NDP Tour Grids and Letters of Intent:

  1. Presenters must review the list of NDP-funded projects on pages 10-16 of the NDP Grant Guidleines booklet, PDF document, 332K NDP Grant Guidelines [768k] and in the 2003-2004 NDP Grant Guidelines, Adobe PDF document NDP Tour Only Grant Recipients list. These projects have met NDP Production Grant criteria and have advanced through NDP's competitive, two-stage review process to receive production support. In selecting projects, NDP considers scale, geography, and the representation of diverse ethnicities and artistic forms.
  2. Presenters interested in booking any of these NDP-funded projects for the 2008-2009 season (June 1, 2008 - August 31, 2009) should begin by contacting the project's Tour Coordinators to arrange agreements.
  3. Presenters must submit a signed Letter of Intent to the Tour Coordinator for each project they will present, which the Tour Coordinator must send to NEFA. This letter must state the negotiated artistic fee (inclusive of travel and lodging costs), dates of engagement, venue for the engagement and a brief description of the engagement. pdf icon NDP Sample Letter of Intent [8k]
  4. Letters of Intent should be typed on presenter letterhead and signed by both the presenter and the artist or their representative. Letters of Intent should be sent directly to the project's Tour Coordinator.

NDP Tour Only Support
Receipt Deadline for Tour Only Support Nominations: November 1, 2007
Receipt Deadline for Letters of Intent and Tour Grids: February 8, 2008

NDP Tour Only Support is awarded to a limited number of projects that are fully created and ready to tour nationally, but were not developed with NDP Production Grant funding. NDP Touring Only Grants are paid directly to performing arts presenters to cover a percentage (up to 30%) of the artistic fee (40% available to presenters new to the NDP program).

Tour Only support is awarded to dance projects based on nominations NDP receives from presenters, artists, artist managers, and agents. In selecting projects, NDP considers scale, geography, and the representation of diverse ethnicities and artistic forms. Specifically, NDP is looking for effective tour planning, including tours to a limited number of venues (at least three in two states) that support expanded residencies and deeper involvement, as well as tours to a larger group of venues that take the work into new and broader communities throughout the U.S.

Criteria
Projects nominated for NDP Tour Only support should:

  1. Be fully developed and available for touring;
  2. Involve artists of regional or national significance;
  3. Enhance the range of NDP-funded projects in scale, potential for geographic reach, and/or representation of diverse artistic styles;
  4. Have a minimum of three U.S. presenters from at least two states committed to the tour.

Eligibility

  • Only one nomination per choreographer, artist or company will be accepted
  • Presenters must have given their permission to be listed on the Nomination form
  • An artist, choreographer, company, or project may not apply for NDP Tour Only support if it is currently receiving NDP Production support, Touring support, or Tour Only support, and has not yet completed its NDP-supported touring season.
  • A United States tour of the project must occur in the season for which Tour Only support is awarded. (For the November 1, 2007 deadline, touring season is June 1, 2008 - August 31, 2009.)

To learn more about the NDP Touring Only Support process, please refer to page 18 of the NDP Grant Guidleines booklet, PDF document, 332K NDP Grant Guidelines [768k].
