ONLINE GRANT PROCESS
NEFA is phasing in a system of accepting grant applications and related forms online through CultureCount, NEFA’s online resource for engaging New England’s cultural nonprofits, businesses, and professionals. This advance reduces paper, is more efficient, and increases NEFA’s ability to analyze trends and impact of the creative economy. Only programs listed below are accepting online applications at this time; for all others, please refer to the specific NEFA program for those application instructions and deadlines.
NEFA recommends thorough review of the program guidelines, instructions, and any supplemental materials required before you begin. As always, first-time applicants are encouraged to contact program staff to discuss projects in advance of applying.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN, please be aware of the following:
- After reading these instructions click the “access your online grant form” link in the box below to sign in or create a CultureCount user account. After signing in, you will select a grant form from a list. Your CultureCount user account also gives you access to the tools and other resources on New England's creative economy available at culturecount.org.
- Only one user account may be used per grant form submission; this username and password serve as an “electronic signature” for the grant form. Multiple users may work on the same form, but the form is always associated with a single user name and password. It is up to the applicant to share his or her account information with colleagues, as NEFA staff will not be able to retrieve it. NEFA will communicate through the email address associated with your user account.
- Some grant forms require supplemental materials; consult the grant program guidelines for reference. Help text exists throughout the online process.
- You may save your work at any time and return to complete it at a later point. We strongly recommend downloading the final draft for your records.
- Programmatic questions should be addressed to the appropriate program staff listed on the Contact page and in the guidelines.
FORMS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ONLINE:
- Public Art Call to Artists Application | Deadline January 15, 2009
- New England States Touring (NEST) Application | Deadline March 2, 2009
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I move back and forth within a form? Can I save my work and return to it later?
Grant forms can be saved at any point. Simply click the “save and next” button on the bottom of the page, then close the window to sign out. You may return to the form when you sign in again. You also have the option of downloading your work as a PDF to review it in its entirety. It is recommended that you download your completed form as a PDF prior to submitting your application. To view your PDF, you will need to have Adobe Reader installed; for a free download, visit http://www.adobe.com/.
How do I make changes to my grant form? How do I submit it? Who do I contact if I have a question or want to make a change?
Simply sign in and select the corresponding form. Once the grant form is completed, click the “done” button; an email receipt with time/date stamp will be sent to the user account email. It’s a good idea to print this confirmation email and keep it with your records. If the grant form has already been submitted, it cannot be changed, and you should contact the program staff listed on the guidelines or the Contact page.
Can multiple users work on the same grant form?
Multiple users may work on the same form but the grant form is always associated with a single user name and password.
Additionally, more than one grant form may be submitted under the same user account.
It is up to the applicant to share his or her sign in information with colleagues, as NEFA staff will not be able to retrieve that information.
I see that CultureCount is “New England’s Cultural Database.” What if I’m based outside of New England?
The steps to create a CultureCount user account and NEFA grant form are the same for everyone. A non-New England organization is still encouraged to add their organization to CultureCount and associate it with their user account to facilitate easier management of their data. However, non-New England organization and artist directory entries will not be publicly visible within CultureCount.
After I submit my grant form online, what else is required?
Each program has its own list of supplementary materials that may be required in addition to the online form. Please check the program’s guidelines for a list of all required materials.
May I submit more than one grant form at a time?
You may submit multiple forms for separate artists; however, you can not receive funding from multiple NEFA programs for the same project.
How are grant forms evaluated and/or reviewed? When will I hear about a decision?
Each program has specific criteria, described in the guidelines, against which applications are measured. A panel of field experts determines how well the application meets the funding criteria. Notification letters are mailed shortly after the panel meets, which varies for each program. Please check the program guidelines for more details.
