Meet the Composer/New England / Overview

Please note that the guidelines for Meet the Compose/New England have recently been revised. Even if you have received funding in the past please read the guidelines and application instructions carefully.

In cooperation with Meet the Composer, Inc., NEFA offers grants to nonprofit organizations in New England to provide interaction between individual composers and audiences related to specific performances of the composer's work. Meet the Composer/New England grantees should provide opportunities for composers that will ensure informative contact with audiences and communities. These include workshops, lectures, open rehearsals, and appearances on local media broadcasts. The composer’s process of creating original music must be reflected in the planned community activities.

Eligible projects encompass the full range of music composition, including jazz, European classical, and songwriting.

Program Goals
Meet the Composer/New England seeks to increase opportunities for composers by fostering the creation, performance, dissemination, and appreciation of their music, and to provide meaningful interactions and experiences between composers, their music, and the citizens of New England.

Grant Guidelines
Meet the Composer/New England grants are available in amounts up to 50% of the composers' fees up to $2,500. The total fee may include travel, accommodations and per diem. Minimum grants are $200 and applications with requests below $200 will not be accepted. The maximum grant award is $2,500. An applicant may receive a maximum of $5,000 in total grant awards from Meet the Composer/New England annually (June 1 – May 31).

Meet the Composer/New England supports the fee of the individual composer, which cannot include the costs of a performing ensemble or additional artists. The funding criteria relate to the activities of the individual composer for whom funding is being requested.
