For this project, beadwork artist Rhonda Besaw will research, design and begin to create a historic Wabanki chief’s coat based on a Mi’kmaq original made circa 1840. After the initial creation, she plans to work with other Wabanki artists to incorporate Abenaki, Maliseet, and Passamaquoddy beading and design into the coat. Upon completion, it will be available for any Wabanaki elder to wear, as she feels it will symbolize the unification of the Wabanaki people and express the honor and love shared for the elders.
